If you have a mouse problem in your home, you’ve probably tried different ways to capture and eliminate them before you settle for the most effective solution of all. Maybe you prefer to use rat killer feeds or even the traditional mousetrap, which on its own is a pretty effective way to trap the rodents in your home. If it’s already working fine for you, congratulations! But if you are not quite satisfied with the results and you are looking for a better alternative, we may have the solution for you.

Introducing the “rolling logs mousetrap”. It is essentially a metal cylinder that rotates along a center rod. Its width is just right to fit inside a 5-gallon bucket. It’s a great DIY project that you can easily construct using just 2 or 3 materials.

Easy to make, yet very effective!

Fit the cylinder near the mouth of the plastic bucket. On the two sides of the bucket, place two wooden “ramps” that the mice can climb on leading to the metal log. Pour water in the bucket and fill it halfway. Now you need to place bait on the device to attract the mice. The video used peanut butter which coated around the metal log.

The trap was set in the barn and left overnight. A camera was set-up to view the activity of the trap. It showed mice walking on the log to eat the peanut butter; when the log rolled, the mice fell straight to water.

Mess-free way to catch and contain mice!

When the man checked on the trap next morning, he was delighted to discover 11 mice drowned in the water in the bucket.

Voila!

If drowning mice seems too cruel for you, the video suggested not filling the bucket with water. The mice will drop and get trapped in there; the slippery sides of the bucket will prevent the mice from climbing out.
