Jealous 16-Year-Old Boy Locks Up 71-Year-Old Wife to Prevent Other Men From Taking Her

Although people like to say “age is nothing but a number,” age remains a crucial factor when it comes to relationships. This is especially true when one or both people in the relationship are still minors. It gets even more complicated when one person is a minor while the other is already a senior citizen. This is the case with a married Indonesian couple — a 16-year-old boy and a 71-year-old woman.

For the most part, people have commented on the vast difference in the degree of maturity of the teenage boy named Selamet and his elderly wife Rohaya. However, the couple say that their marriage is going strong.

Their families have been forced to accept their union.

Initially, both the families of Selamet and Rohaya objected to their relationship. Nevertheless, the couple remained committed to each other. They even told their families that they would kill themselves if they were torn apart. Thus, their families gave their consent. The couple were married and went to Jakarta for their honeymoon.

They have an age gap of 55 years!

As they settled into their married life, there were stories that the 16-year-old boy would lock up his wife in the house whenever he had to go out. He claimed that he did this out of jealousy. He was afraid that other men might take away his 71-year-old wife.

Can you blame people for being skeptical about this marriage?

The 16-year-old boy is also said to be so clingy towards his wife. In fact, he sometimes skips going to the mosque for the Friday prayers that all Muslim men are expected to attend. The women are not supposed to be present during these prayers. A village leader had already told Selamet that no matter how he loves his wife, he still shouldn’t neglect his religious obligations.

They appear to have had fun during their honeymoon.

Rohaya explained:

“I have reminded him to diligently pray. I told him to remember the village leader’s words. If it is Friday, then he must go to the mosque to fulfill his Friday prayers. He even invited me to go with him.”

They’re determined to have kids, too.

Moreover, Selamet has been going around telling people that he plans to have kids with his 71-year-old wife. He wants a daughter and a son so much that he has already picked out their names. He said,

“I want my daughter to be named Putri Permata Sari and my son to be named Andre Maulana.”

They say they can’t live without each other.

The reports don’t exactly say how the couple plans to do this. It was only noted that the old woman has already been rushed to the clinic several times due to exhaustion.
