24,000 Fans Want ‘Game Of Thrones’ Showrunners Removed From New ‘Star Wars’ Movies

It looks like the Game of Thrones Season 8 backlash is on the verge of affecting David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ new project. A fan has launched a petition calling for the Game of Thrones showrunners to be removed from the upcoming Star Wars trilogy. Interestingly, the petition has already gained more than 24,000 signatures.

Back in February 2018, Disney announced that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be writing and producing a new series of Star Wars films after the final season of Game of Thrones. The news was initially welcomed by fans, who even speculated that the writers’ trilogy might focus on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. However, things changed when the eighth season of the HBO series aired this April.

Dan Weiss and David Benioff continue to be plagued by viral petitions.

People were so disappointed with Game of Thrones Season 8 that someone started a petition to remake the entire final season with “competent writers.” That petition already has over a million signatures. Meanwhile, the new petition addressed to the Walt Disney Company now has more than 24,000 fans who believe that letting Benioff and Weiss take charge of a new Star Wars trilogy “is not only a  controversial decision but a mistake, plain and simple.”

“This whole season of the HBO show, which wraps up next week, has tested fans with unpopular, illogical, immersion breaking plot twists and character developments.

“Seeing how these writers handled the most popular TV Show of a generation and seeing how the fans are reacting to it should not be rewarded with giving them the most popular movie franchise in the world! 

“It is in the company’s best interest to remove David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as writers on their upcoming film. The writers have a crutch for plot devices and rushed stories, with emphasis on “shock and awe” storytelling and eager to leave projects half-finished when they have other projects on the horizon. Their respect of lore alone does not make them fit for this project.”

Fans were unhappy with what happened to Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen in the ‘Game of Thrones’ finale.

Interestingly, the petition was actually started by “George R.R. Martin.” It’s highly unlikely that it is the real author of A Song of Ice and Fire who launched the petition. Nevertheless, it’s an amusing detail.

Game of Thrones Season 8 concluded with Jon Snow killing Daenerys Targaryen to prevent her from spreading her tyranny around the world.
