Cleaning tile grout doesn't have to involve harsh chemicals.
A dirty bathroom, toilet or tiled room is never a pleasant sight. Most of the time, the tile grout makes your home look old and dirty fast. Not only do they make you lose the appeal of your interior design but it could also promote the growth of mold and mildew, which can be unhealthy for the entire household.
While bleach is usually the most popular solution to moldy tile grout, there are naturally effective ways on how to deal with them.
#1. Baking Soda
Baking soda is an ingredient readily available in your home. This is an effective product especially when you are dealing with light water spots, dust and product residue with minimal abrasive action. Simply dip a damp cloth or sponge into a bowl of baking soda and scrub the tiles clean. This should be followed by thorough rinsing with warm water.
#2. Lemon Juice
Beauty enthusiasts swear that lemon juice is ideal in removing skin blemishes and lightening dark spots. It turns out that the same lightening action can be applied in cleaning tile grout. Since it is acidic in nature, it makes your tiles unsuitable for mildew and mold growth. The lightening and stain-removing action work best when paired with baking soda.
#3. Vinegar
Just like lemon juice, the acidic vinegar is one of the most popular natural cleaners that’s proven to be effective. Use equal parts of white vinegar and water and mix them in a spray bottle. Spray onto the dirty surface and leave for a few minutes before you start scrubbing. For hard to remove stains, vinegar should be combined with baking soda.
#4. Salt
Salt can simply be found in your kitchen and it turns out they can be a great tile grout cleaner. Rub the area with a damp sponge or cloth and sprinkle on some salt. Leave for a few minutes before scrubbing and then leave again overnight before continuing with the cleaning the next day.
#5. Hydrogen Peroxide
When none of the cleaning agents above works, hydrogen peroxide can be perfect for stubborn molds on tiled surfaces. The natural substance is not only useful in the medical setting but it is also a great cleaning agent. Mix hydrogen peroxide and white flour to have a thick paste that will be applied to the grouted areas. Cover with clingy wrap and leave on overnight before rinsing with cold water the next day.
