If you have an intense love of both drinking and nature, then this bar nestled inside a giant tree is the place for you!
If you’re looking for a watering hole in the middle of the hot, dry savannas of South Africa, head on down to Sunland Big Baobab in Limpopo Province, South Africa where you can find both shade and a drink inside a giant 6000 year-old tree!
Baobab trees naturally become hollow inside when they turn a thousand years old. Inside are caves and caverns created by Mother Nature herself. So not only do you get beautiful interiors within a thousand year-old baobab tree, but you also get great insulation. And that’s what makes it the perfect place to set up a bar!
Unfortunately, only 15 can fit inside the bar at any one time. But guests are welcome to grab a drink and take it outside to bask in the shade of the huge baobab tree. In fact, the area surrounding the Big Baobab bar is so vast that it’s also a popular spot for weddings and other events.
Sunland Big Baobab is on the Sunland Mango farm, where visitors can drop by for a few drinks at the bar or an overnight stay at one of the 5 chalets in the area. And if you fancy a hike, there are trails and waterfalls in the surrounding area as well as a mountain biking trail.
Sunland Big Baobab was bought by Doug and Heather van Heerden in 1989, and began planting mango and palm trees in the surrounding areas. Since then, it has become a popular tourist attraction.
