Lack of planting space on the metropolis paved the way for vertical urban gardening or green architecture. Since then, several buildings have adapted the concept of living walls.
Although not dense enough to create substantial carbon offset, it is definitely effective in suppressing heat. Studies show that a layer of green reduces ambient temperature by two degrees Celsius which constitutes to energy savings.

1. Marche des Halles, Avignon, France
This fabulous creation of Patrick Blanc shows that living walls are not just ecologically advantageous, it proves to be a work of art too.
Plants are carefully selected, and no soil is needed for this ingenious design which means it’s low maintenance.
2. CaixaForum Museum, Madrid, Spain
Thanks to the living wall outside CaixaForum Museum, more tourists have swarmed into this area which has now become a famous tourist spot.
This 24-meter high wall is covered with 15,000 plants of 250 various species.
3. Musee du Quai Branly, Paris, France
Stunning, isn’t it?
Apparently, this living wall is one of the well-loved vertical gardens in the world.
As you can see, it just didn’t make the building more attractive but also improved the air quality and lessen energy consumption.
4. Ann Demeulemeester Shop, Seoul, South Korea
The Ann Demeulemeester Shop in Seoul is far different from the typical retail shop as it has walls of greens both inside and out.
Korean architectural group Mass Studies designed and created this incredible living wall.
5. ACROS Fukuoka Prefectural, Japan
Japan has been leading in facade greening for the past decades, and one of its great examples of green architecture is the ACROS Fukuoka Prefecture, an oasis in the middle of a concrete jungle. The architect of the 18 story building transposed a 100,000 square foot side of the building into 15 stepped terraces of living wall.
Definitely, exceptional!
6. SkyFarm, Toronto, Canada
In downtown Toronto, Canada, a 714-foot, 58 story building structure is an epitome of profit and beauty because of its living wall.
An estimate of $23 million is the annual profit from the crops in this vertical wall.
