Motherhood Is Equivalent To Having Two Full-Time Jobs, Says Research
Ask any experienced mother and they’ll all tell you the same thing – motherhood is not for the faint of heart. While bearing and nurturing children can surely be a rewarding journey, no mom will ever tell you that it’s not challenging at all.
In fact, one recent study took a closer look at how much time and effort women give for motherhood and the results just confirm something we’ve always known – mothers are amazing!
In an article published by SmartParenting, we read:
“Researchers observed about 2,000 moms of school-aged kids (aged 5 to 12) in the U.S. and followed them as they shuttled their kids to and from school, extracurricular activities, doctor appointments, and playdates, and more. The goal was to discover hacks, tools, resources, and techniques moms use to keep their family life going, but it also gave people a look into their everyday life.”
The study, sponsored by juice company Welch’s, tells us that most moms in the U.S. generally start their day at 6:23 AM and ends it at 8:31 PM.
Put in proper perspective, we learn that mothers spend about 14 hours per day or up to 98 hours a week doing ‘mommy duties’ which, the researchers pointed out, is similar to having 2 1/2 full time jobs!
Moreover, those 14 hours are just for tasks exclusive to motherhood so the figures can even be different for working moms or for moms running a business.
And how much ‘me time’ do most moms get on a daily basis? Roughly 1 hour, said the research.
In a Yahoo interview Casey Lewis, M.S., R.D. and Health & Nutrition lead at Welch’s, shared:
“The results of the survey highlight just how demanding the role of mom can be and the non-stop barrage of tasks it consists of.
“Anything that can be done to make mom’s life a little bit easier can make all the difference.”
