Influencer Asks Woman For Free Training And Charges Her A Hefty Fee For ‘Exposure’
Gone were the days when celebrities, models, and athletes were the only ones who can promote a product or service. Now, in the world of social media, anyone can be an influencer.
Big companies and newcomers pay good money to social media stars with a huge following. However, a lot of these influencers are taking things too far and would ask businesses to sponsor them in exchange for some exposure on their social media accounts.
Personal trainer Daphne Maia Loo took to Facebook to share her experience with an influencer, who didn’t only ask for a free service, she’s expecting to get paid.
Daphne wrote:
“This evening, we received an email from someone who was looking for a Personal Trainer. Let me correct that. I mean, a “Lifestyle Influencer” was looking for a FREE Personal Trainer who would PAY HER to get trained.”
She said that being a personal trainer, this particular request was very offensive. Daphne noted that she was also a former Social Media Manager and Marketing Manager, which made her “amused” that this is what influencers do nowadays.
Just in case people would point out that the gym will get exposure out of the deal, Daphne had this to say:
“Exposure ain’t gonna pay the bills we have nor feed the families we have. And don’t forget, she’s asking to be paid as well, for the exposure.”
The influencer she’s an International Wellness Coach, Motivational Speaker, and Lifestyle Influencer. She then included links to her social media accounts and the breakdown of her “promotion” in the email.
With over 30,000 followers, the influencer said that she would feature the gym on her pages. She also claims that an award-winning photographer will be present to capture everything.
The jaw-dropping part of the proposal is the “Cost of Project,” where the influencer stated that a whopping $3000 is to be “paid before commencement of project” for 36 free training sessions.
And no, this is not an exclusive email for the trainer. The truth is that the influencer sent the lengthy email using bcc, which means that she’s also giving this offer to other gyms as well.
After learning about the gym owner’s post, the influencer responded through a Facebook post.
