Marvel Actors Who Worked Together In Non-MCU Movies
Some actors just enjoy working with each other. The history of cinema is filled with several repeat collaborations between a star and a director. However, Marvel actors appear to seek each other out even in projects that don’t involve the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Most of the current Marvel actors have already worked together in previous blockbusters. Cate Blanchett and Karl Urban were part of the cast of the Lord of the Rings trilogy before they reunited in Thor: Ragnarok. Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch have worked together on Sherlock and The Hobbit trilogy (which also starred Lee Pace from Guardians of the Galaxy) before becoming MCU stars.
Here are more amazing actors who joined forces on non-Marvel projects.
1. Captain America, Gamora, and Heimdall were led by Negan in ‘The Losers’
The action comedy based on the Vertigo comics actually featured an all-star cast including Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, and The Walking Dead actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Evans followed up the film with another comic book movie featuring the future Captain Marvel.
2. Steve Rogers teamed up with Carol Danvers to defeat Dick Grayson in ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’
Evans played Ramona Flowers’ second evil ex Lucas Lee while Brie Larson portrayed Scott’s own evil ex Envy Adams. They went up against Michael Cera, who voiced Robin in The LEGO Batman Movie.
3. Captain America and Black Widow stole SAT exams in ‘The Perfect Score’
Before they started working together in the Avengers film, Evans and Scarlett Johansson’s first collaboration was in the teen heist film. They also starred in The Nanny Diaries, which means they have collaborated on seven movies including Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
4. Gamora and Thor ventured into space with Skurge and the original Hulk in ‘Star Trek’ (2009)
Chris Hemsworth was only in the first few minutes of the movie but the cameo put his name up with Zoe Saldana and Karl Urban. Interestingly, the reboot also featured Eric Bana, who played Bruce Banner in the 2003 Ang Lee film.
5. Thor and Spider-Man went after a furious whale in ‘In the Heart of the Sea’
They didn’t share any screen-time in Avengers: Infinity War but Marvel actors Chris Hemsworth and Tom Holland are old whaling buddies.
6. Thor and Helmut Zemo were feuding race car drivers in ‘Rush’
Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl top-billed the 2013 sports film about James Hunt and Niki Lauda. The movie also featured Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer, who had a small role in Captain America: The First Avenger.
7. Rocket Raccoon kissed Helmut Zemo in ‘Burnt’
Bradley Cooper might not be a Marvel face but his voice has given life to Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy. A film similar to the drama would also bring together three major MCU actors.
8. Tony Stark, Happy Hogan, and Black Widow cook together in ‘Chef’
Scarlett Johansson first starred with Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau in Iron Man 2. She evidently enjoyed working with them so much that she appeared in Favreau’s food truck comedy. Johansson would later provide the voice for Kaa in Favreau’s The Jungle Book, which also featured Idris Elba and Lupita Nyong’o from Black Panther.
9. Iron Man falls in love with Aunt May in ‘Only You’
There had to be a reason why Tony couldn’t stop flirting with Peter Parker’s beautiful aunt. Downey and Marisa Tomei’s first collaboration was in Chaplin where he took the title role while Tomei portrayed actress Mabel Normand. And then they were together again for Only You.
10. Doctor Strange and Loki trained a pony together in ‘War Horse’
The Marvel characters didn’t get along in Thor: Ragnarok. However, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston are good friends after working on the 2011 war drama.
11. Thanos and Scarlet Witch went up against Nick Fury and Mantis in the ‘Oldboy’ remake
Josh Brolin’s Mad Titan had a difficult time with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff in Avengers: Infinity War. Was it because of their past in the remake of the Korean film? Interestingly, the two had to fight off Samuel L. Jackson and Pom Klementieff in the Spike Lee movie.
12. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were married in 2014’s ‘Godzilla’
Elizabeth Olsen worked with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the Gareth Edwards film before they debuted as the Maximoff twins in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Olsen has also starred alongside Tom Hiddleston in I Saw The Light and reunited with Pom Klementieff in Ingrid Goes West.
