According to a federal affidavit filed in Los Angeles, his plethora of social media posts provided investigators with the much-needed basis to confirm his identity and connect him to the crimes.
Ramon Abbas a.k.a. Ray Hushpuppi has been arrested by authorities for alleged cyber crime schemes.
Investigators from the United Arab Emirates arrived at his apartment. Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation also came to take him to Chicago.
$41 million were seized, along with 13 luxury vehicles.
Abbas claimed to be a real estate developer in his Instagram profile.
However, allegations tell us that the Nigerian national is actually the leader of a global network that uses computers to steal from companies. He has also collaborated with several co-conspirators in the crime.
During the arrest, phone and computer evidence have been discovered, containing contact information of almost 2 million possible victims.

“This case targets a key player in a large, transnational conspiracy who was living an opulent lifestyle in another country while allegedly providing safe havens for stolen money around the world.”
Abbas is expected to get a 20-year jail sentence once proven guilty of money laundering.
