Prisoner in the Philippines Escaped After He Was Asked To Fetch Water Outside Jail Facility
- There was shortage of water in the facility, so the guard ordered Dealagdon and two other prisoners to fetch water outside.
- Only the two other guys went back to prison and Dealagdon was nowhere to be found.
- The escapee was doing jail time for two counts of murder – attempted murder and frustrated murder.
It sounds like a joke, but this really took place. Yes, things like this really do happen.
In a sub-provincial jail in Calbayog City, which is in the Philippine province of Samar, a prisoner identified as Jerry Dealagdon was asked by the duty guard to go fetch water outside the jail premises on November 17.
There was shortage of water in the facility, so the guard ordered the 35-year-old Dealagdon and two other prisoners to fetch water outside. Later in the day, only the two other guys went back to prison and Dealagdon was nowhere to be found.
The duty guard was prompted to look for Dealagdon. The authorities are now searching for the escapee and the public was told to give any information about him.
The escapee, who is a resident of Barangay Jolacao in Sta. Margarita, Samar, was doing jail time for two counts of murder – attempted murder and frustrated murder.
As expected, the news garnered reactions of amusement and disbelief from netizens. Reddit users gave their own witty comments about the “prison break.”
From DessieDearest: “‘Holy sh*t, what an idiot.’ -That inmate probably”
From south_mnt_skinwalker: “I can’t believe you’ve done this –some guard to another”
Other commenters who have knowledge of how prison systems outside America works gave explanations to educate others how this happened.
User “dasus” said that he don’t see the story as “oniony”.
“Low security jails are probably a strange concept to our ‘Murican friends, but they do exist. The reason people wouldn’t run even if they could is 1) they don’t want to be looked for the rest of their life by the police 2) they’ll ruin their chances of getting to a minimum security prison if they get another sentence / caught.”
User “AngelOfMeh” added:
“Yeah seems pretty normal to me. Even in “regular” security prisons, the prisoners get off time when they can go out or visit their families for the weekend for example, but need to be back on time. I can see how this can be confusing to our American friends who don’t understand rehabilitation.”
It would be very interesting to see now if the authorities will manage to find Dealagdon and take him back to jail.
