More Than 17.5 Million Covid-19 Vaccines Now Administered

• About a year since the pandemic started, COVID-19 vaccines are now available.
• About 17.5 million shots are already administered.
• 20 Million vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are expected to be distributed in the US.
• AstraZeneca Plc vaccine is now authorized in the UK, and Sinopharm’s vaccine is now available for general use in China.
• Vaccines are also being rolled out in 35 countries and in the North America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Almost a year since the coronavirus pandemic started, the world welcomes the biggest vaccination campaign has begun. Over 17.5 million shots have been administered in 35 different countries, including the U.S., since December 14, 2020, and data shows that there are still billions of doses left to be delivered in what is projected to be the most significant logistical challenge the world has ever witnessed.

Nations and pharmaceutical companies poured efforts and billions of dollars into developing these new vaccine technologies, with clinical trials and thousands of volunteers, to scale up the manufacturing process and bring them to market in record time.

According to the tally from Bloomberg and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were about 5.05 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines administered in the U.S.

U.S. Vaccine Campaign

About 20 million additional doses are also allocated from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna and distributed this January.

North America, Europe, and the Middle East also cleared the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine administration in 35 countries.

AstraZeneca Plc and the University of Oxford also got their first major authorization, from the U.K., on December 30. China also cleared Sinopharm’s vaccine for general use, with the target to inoculate 50 million people in February.

Other countries got a head start on vaccinations. China and Russia authorized their shots in July and August before they’d been thoroughly tested.

None of these vaccines, on its own, is enough to provide vaccines to the 7.8 billion people of the world. But together, these vaccines offer the global population the chance to best the pandemic that has claimed over 1.8 million lives and triggered global economic calamity.
