  • YouTube has deleted more than 30,000 misinformation videos about Covid-19 vaccines.
  • Additionally, the platform has also removed over 800,000 videos with misleading or false information about coronavirus.
  • Spokesperson Elena Hernandez explained that the videos deleted contradicted information from the World Health Organization.

YouTube has deleted over 30,000 videos containing Covid-19 vaccine misinformation. According to the popular video-sharing service, they have been busy removing content with misleading or false information for the past five months.

Spokesperson Elena Hernandez said that the videos contradicted official information from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health authorities. She likewise pointed out that YouTube began banning false information about vaccines in October of last year.

In addition, YouTube has deleted over 800,000 misinformation videos about coronavirus which goes beyond vaccines but other “medically unsubstantiated” claims.

Since the start of the pandemic, numerous videos have made rounds on the platform such as those claiming that vaccines contain a secret microchip or that it causes infertility. Moreover, several videos also made false claims about certain “cures” for the virus.

YouTube admits that finding and removing all erroneous content can be difficult. The move, however, has been praised by health experts, especially now that the country has rolled out out its vaccination efforts to help control the spread of Covid-19.

“Getting millions of people vaccinated, in order of priority, is a big logistical challenge for states,” wrote Washington-based National Public Radio. “As a result, there’s often a delay between when states receive their federal shipments of vaccines and when they get all the shots into people’s arms”.

President Joe Biden has previously declared that the goal is to administer 100 million shots in his first 100 days in office. Now recent reports are also telling us that Biden is “confident” that the country will not only hit the target but even surpass it.

He predicted:

“I believe we’ll be approaching normalcy by the end of this year, and God willing this Christmas will be different than last but I can’t make that commitment to you.”
