Desperate Man Buys Rubber Boat, Rows Away From China To Seek “Freedom and Equality”

• A Chinese man surnamed Zhou recently escaped China using a rubber boat he purchased online.
• According to the 33-year-old man, he took the 10-hour trip to Taiwan to seek “freedom and equality.”
• Authorities have since been left puzzled about how he get pass the tight security measures of both China and Taiwan.

A man from China has captured the attention of netizens everywhere after his story went viral online. Apparently, the guy said he bought a military-style rubber boat from an online store and then traveled all the way to Taiwan – which took him over ten hours.

Authorities later ended up arresting him and later investigated to know how he passed the tightly-guarded Taiwan Strait without being detected.

According to reports, the 33-year-old man surnamed Zhou, he took the risk of rowing to Taiwan because life in China was “all kinds of bad.”

The viral video showed Zhou at the Taichung harbor as he was interviewed by cops where he told them he only wanted “freedom and equality” and wasn’t escaping for any serious crimes.

The Chinese man likewise shared that he equipped his raft with a motor and then brought nothing else except 23 gallons of fuel for the one-way trip. He later traveled Quanzhou, Fujian in China’s to the Strait which was over 100 miles away.

Zhou has been detained by authorities after they learned about his illegal act.

Chiu Kuo-cheng, defense minister of Taiwan, eventually told the media:

“We will get in touch with the coastguard, and we will notify each other when there is a situation, to find out the reasons and make improvements.”

Meanwhile, Taiwanese lawmaker Tsai Shih-ying commented that Zhou’s illegal crossing “shows that even with the aid of radars, our coastguard or navy is not able to track the movements of small floating craft like rubber dinghies and bamboo rafts.”
