Snorkeler Finds Missing Wedding Ring Around Body Of Mullet Fish
- A missing wedding ring has been found in Norfolk Island, Australia.
- Snorkeler Susan Prior took underwater photos after it was spotted around the body of a mullet fish.
- She later got in touch with the couple online after remembering their story.
A snorkeler in Australia recently made an interesting discovery while diving underwater: she found a gold wedding ring around the neck of a mullet fish.
According to reports, married couple Nathan Reeves and Suzie Quintal of Gold Coast visited Norfolk Island last year during the Christmas season. He later noticed he was missing his ring after taking a swim in Emily Bay. Now the ring has been spotted again by local snorkeler Susan Prior.
Apparently, the expensive ring was spotted lodged around a fish’s body. Prior said it was “gut-wrenching” to see the fish trapped that way.
“The metal can only be removed by catching the fish in a net and gently removing it” she continued. “The fish seems to be OK so far but as it grows, the ring will cut into it.”
Prior did not catch the fish at the time but eventually managed to contact the couple through a community Facebook page after she remembered about their story. Now locals are hoping to find the fish again to get the ring and return it to the rightful owner.
Meanwhile, Quintal shared that Reeves did his best to search for the ring but efforts proved futile.
“He tried to look for it and then broke the news to me and I was not happy,” she confessed. “I always tell him to take it off before he goes for a swim. He lost it a day before our second wedding anniversary.”
Quintal continued:
“People are now trying to source nets, some have got scuba gear. The team in the glass bottom boats are going to have a look – Norfolk’s really good like that.”
Prior also pointed out that catching the fish will not be easy as it is “very skittish and keeps on the edge of the school.”
“We need to get quite a few of us in there to corral it and then use a throw net to try and catch it,” she likewise added. “It really is going to be difficult.”
