American Pastor Gets Sued For Selling $80 Fake Coronavirus Cure

• Televangelist Jim Bakker claimed that Silver Solution can cure coronavirus, SARs and HIV.
• In The Jim Bakker Show, he introduced a so-called “natural health expert” implying that Bakker’s liquid solution may be effective.
• The Food and Drugs Administration rejected his claims and clarified that the product has not been tested or approved by the department.

In an episode of The Jim Bakker Show, the televangelist held a blue and silver bottle with a label that says “Silver Solution.” He claimed that it can effectively cure the dreaded coronavirus (COVID-19) that’s been claiming thousands of lives around the globe.

According to Bakker, Silver Solution has the ability to kill every pathogen, including HIV and SARS. To further drive his point, he even invited a “natural health expert” named Sherill Sellman who confirmed the possible efficacy of the “cure” to individuals who contracted the fatal virus. However, she also clarified that the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has not yet tested it.

“Well, let’s say it hasn’t been tested on this strain of coronavirus, but it has been tested on other strains of the coronavirus and has been able to eliminate it within 12 hours…Totally eliminate it. Kills it. Deactivates it,” Sellman claimed.

Sellman also said that the Silver Solution has allegedly been proven by the U.S. government regarding its ability to destroy other pathogens such as SARS and HIV.

The Silver Solution, otherwise known as “Silver Sol Liquid”, “Silver Sol”, and “Optivida Silver Solution,” cost $80 for a 4-ounce bottle.

We visited and checked the said product in Bakker’s official website but it appears it’s already been taken down. He, however, still continues to sell different Optivida supplements, food for Keto diet, emergency tools, and even jewelries and apparels.

Eventually, the FDA debunked Bakker’s claims, noting that the agency has never tested nor approved an alleged cure for any immune system disease.

In a letter sent to the Jim Bakker Show, the FDA and Federal Trade Commission wrote that the Silver Solution and other products are in “violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

The FDA also clarified that there are currently no “vaccines, lotions, potions, lozenges or other prescriptions” that can cure the coronavirus.

“The Secretary of Health and Human Services has determined that a public health emergency exists nationwide as a result of confirmed cases of COVID-19. Therefore, FDA is taking urgent measures to protect consumers from certain products that, without approval or authorization by FDA, claim to mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-18 in people,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the State of Missouri filed a case against Bakker for selling fraudulent coronavirus cures. They also ordered Bakker and 6 other companies, including the Morningside Church Productions, to seize selling “unapproved products and treatments.”

Raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Bakker was previously arrested and convicted of fraudulent activities connecting to his Praise The Lord Church, PTL, Club Show that featured him and his former wife, Tammy Faye Bakker. During the 1980’s the former couple drew public attention due to a scandal involving Bakker paying “hush money” to cover-up his ongoing affair with his church secretary, Jessica Hahn. He served five years in prison.

The U.S. justice department has previously warned the public against those who will take advantage of the current pandemic by doing fraudulent activities or selling fake cures to earn money. They also stated that anyone who intentionally spreads the virus could be charged as a terrorist in the country.
