8 Natural Remedies For Athlete’s Foot
A lot of people suffer from athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) and they have no idea how to handle this problem. Having this is not only unattractive, but it can certainly affect one’s confidence.
Fortunately, many natural remedies can be helpful in killing the fungus that causes athlete’s foot. Here are eight home treatments to effectiviely cure this fungal infection.
1. Organic tea tree oil
There is scientific evidence that tea tree oil treats athlete’s foot, fungal nail infections, and ringworm effectively. You can make a foot soak with water and 40 drops of pure tea tree oil.
2. Apple cider vinegar and Himalayan crystal salt
The mix is acidic in nature, which is an environment that fungus cannot thrive.
Make a mixture of half a cup of apple cider vinegar, two tablespoons of Himalayan crystal salt, and warm water. Soak your feet for ten minutes then dry thoroughly.
3. Baking soda
You can also sprinkle baking soda on your feet or in your socks before putting your shoes on. You can also use it for foot soak.
4. Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide will destroy the athlete’s foot fungus through its antibacterial aspects, but also keep the area dry so that athlete’s foot does not have a chance to grow or reoccur.
Soak your feet in a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water at least once a day. Just keep in mind that this chemical can sting, especially if you have an open wound.
5. Plain yogurt
While oral probiotics are beneficial to your gut and overall health, in the event of an acute athlete’s foot infection, you may find the topical application of probiotics helpful.
Cover the affected areas in yogurt; let dry, and then rinse off. Be sure only to use the plain one.
6. Garlic
Garlic is widely used throughout history for its microbial properties and seems to be especially effective against the fungus that causes athlete’s foot.
Soak your feet for 30 minutes in water with crushed up garlic cloves. Also, mix minced garlic with olive oil and apply directly to the affected area.
7. Green tea
Green tea is one such ingredient that can provide relief and prevent athlete’s foot from recurring. Soaking in green tea baths has been noted as an effective home remedy.
Place five to six green tea bags into boiling water. Let steep until it cools down enough to soak your feet for 10-15 minutes comfortably. Don’t rinse and just let them dry.
8. Let your feet breathe
Athlete’s foot occurs when you have sweaty feet. So give them a break, and wear sandals when possible.
