Wait, is that the Millennium Falcon or something?
The ocean, as they say, is full of wonder and mystery.
This has once again been proven true with the discovery of the so-called Baltic Sea Anomaly.
Discovered on June 2011 by “Ocean X,” a team of Swedish divers, the Baltic Sea Anomaly is a circular rock-like formation found on the floor of the northern Baltic Sea at the center of the Bothnian Sea. According to the group, they were looking for an old shipwreck but were instead astonished with what they found.
The team further shared that the massive round formation appears to be made of “rough granite” and measures around 9.8 to 13.1 ft in thickness, 26 ft in height, and 200 ft in diameter. They also stated that it is located at the depth of 279 to 295 ft. Ocean X likewise noted the formation appears to have pillars and even a staircase that leads to a round dark hole. Furthermore, a smaller object is also found near the structure which looks like a 980 ft “runway”.
Peter Lindberg, founder of Ocean X, said:
“First we thought this was only stone, but this is something else. And since no volcanic activity has ever been reported in the Baltic Sea the find becomes even stranger.”
Many believe that the discovery is an evidence of a U.F.O. Some even went as far as describing that it resembles the Millennium Falcon, the fictional spaceship in the movie Star Wars.
However, various critics claim that the structure may only be a World War II anti-submarine device or a battleship gun turret. On the other hand, some geologists say it’s probably nothing more than a natural geological formation.
Göran Ekberg, marine archaeologist at Sjöhistoriska museet (Maritime museum) in Stockholm, commented:
“A natural, geological formation can’t be ruled out. I agree the finding looks weird since it’s completely circular. But nature has produced stranger things than that.”
Ocean X has published close-up sonar scans on their website for the world to see.
