Men Prefer ‘Bromance’ Over Girlfriends Nowadays, New Study Says

Ladies, take note: It seems like you have a new competition with your man and no, we’re not talking about another girl.

According to a recent study, straight young men are finding greater satisfaction in their ‘bromances’ compared with their relationships with the opposite sex.

This takes the phrase ‘bros before hoes’ to the next level.

The study was recently conducted by a group of social scientists from the Universities of Winchester and Bedfordshire in England. The claim was based on the data gathered from 30 male sports science students.

The young men, who each had at least 1 ‘bromance’ and 1 girlfriend over the past year, were interviewed by the group. The astounding result tells us that 28 out of the 30 students confessed that they usually prefer talking about personal matters with their male friends than their girlfriends.

The study labeled ‘bromances’ as the “new social space for emotional disclosure”.

As published in the journal Men and Masculinities:

“Our participants mostly determined that a bromance offered them elevated emotional stability, enhanced emotional disclosure, social fulfillment, and better conflict resolution, compared to the emotional lives they shared with girlfriends.”

Of course, the good thing about this is that homophobia has massively declined in the past years and so more men are now feeling at ease about being close to each other. Also, it is a natural tendency for men to have close pals of the same gender just like girls do.

Could bromances be bad for women?

However, some still believe that bromances can possibly put an end to traditional relationships – if not now, then maybe in the future.

In an interview with National Post, for example, Adam White, one of the co-authors of the study, explained:

“What happens in 50 years, say, if these bromantic relationships really take off and men decide, ‘Hang on, we really enjoy these.

“These are much better. We can gain more emotionality from it.

“We’re less regulated, we’re less policed and therefore women actually just become the sexual fulfillers of men and nothing else.”
