It's OK to not be OK, according to Burger King.
We all know about McDonald’s Happy Meals but have you ever heard about its direct competition? Burger King recently made headlines after launching its own lineup of packaged meals, which is being marketed as unhappy meals.
In an effort to raise awareness about mental health, the popular fast food brand introduced the limited edition “Real Meals” which include the Blue Meal, the Salty Meal, the Yaaas Meal and the DGAF (Don’t Give a F**k) Meal. The meals include a Whopper burger, some french fries and a beverage.
An official online statement from the burger chain said:
“Burger King restaurants understands that no one is happy all the time. That’s why they’re asking guests to order a Whopper meal based on however they might be feeling.”
The video advertisement accompanying the meals show people in varying emotional ranges. “No one is happy all the time. And that’s OK,” the description said.
The project, which is done in collaboration with Mental Health America, appropriately kicked off this month of May in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month.. The meals will be available in “Seattle, Miami, Los Angeles, New York City and Austin, Texas, while supplies last,” a report said.
Paul Gionfriddo, president and chief executive, pointed out:
“While not everyone would think about pairing fast food and mental health, MHA believes in elevating the conversation in all communities in order to address mental illness Before Stage 4 (when someone has severe symptoms).
“By using its internationally-known reputation to discuss the importance of mental health, Burger King is bringing much-needed awareness to this important and critical discussion — and letting its customers know that is OK to not be OK.”
Needless to say, the campaign has gained mixed reactions from netizen with some praising the initiatives while others are criticizing it for including a foul language in one of the meals.
