A woman from California unfortunately lost her chance to be a millionaire after accidentally washing her winning ticket in the washing machine. According to reports, the winner for the November 14 Super Lotto Plus draw had the chance to claim the prize money until May 14 – but nobody came.
Apparently, the winning ticket was sold at an Arco AM/PM convenience store in Los Angeles. Store worker Esperanza Hernandez later told the media that a female customer recently paid them a visit, telling how she placed her lotto tickets in her pants, forgot about it, and then washed it in the laundry.
The store manager confirmed that surveillance footage showed a woman purchasing the ticket. The said video has since been sent to California Lottery officials.
Meanwhile, lottery spokesperson Cathy Johnston assured that they will be investigating the matter.
Officials explained that people who believe they’ve won the lottery will be required to fill up a form. However, they will also be asked to provide proof – such as a picture – if they ever lose the winning ticket.
In a media report, we read that the winning numbers were 23, 36, 12, 31, 13, and the mega number of 10. The winner could have received the $26 million prize through annual installments or as $19.7 million in cash. As a bonus, the store that sold the winning ticket will receive $130,000.
If the prize money remains unclaimed, the $19.7 million will be given to public schools in California.
