"Chicken Attack" is an infectious tune featuring Japanese yodeler Takeo Ischi and it's awesome!
The Chinese calendar has designated 2017 as the Year of the Fire Rooster. So, perhaps, the song, “Chicken Attack,” is the best soundtrack for it. The track involves yodeling done by a Japanese man named Takeo Ischi! Now, that alone is pretty unusual.
Yodeling is a form of singing that involves repeated quick changes of pitch between the low-pitch chest register and the high-pitch head register. The practice is associated with the people living in the Central Alps — which is a vast mountain range in Central Europe. It covers parts of Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Germany, and minimal areas of Hungary. Yodeling was actually used by shepherds and goatherds to call out to their animals. In time, yodeling was appreciated as an art form.
The 69-year-old Ischi was born in Japan and there’s no indication of any German heritage in his family. However, when Ischi was in high school, he heard yodeling on the radio. He was hooked from then on.
Even as he went on to take up mechanical engineering in college, Ischi stayed focused on perfecting his yodeling skills. Then, his studies took him to Germany. From there, he found his way to Switzerland where he got a yodeling gig for a beer hall. Since then, Ischi has been earning money for his talent. Germans love him and have tagged him as the “Japanese yodeler.” He’s a big celebrity in Germany.
A few years ago, Ischi gained more fame as the video for his song “New Bibi Hendl (Chicken Yodeling)” attracted more fans. The members of American group The Gregory Brothers were among these people.
The Gregory Brothers — known for “Autotune the News” and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt theme — is currently producing Song Voyage. This involves going around the world to make weird and wonderful music. Of course, they got in touch with Ischi for the hilariously catchy “Chicken Attack.”

“Chicken Attack” (featuring Takeo Ischi) Lyrics
by The Gregory Brothers
Oh…oh…
You should know that a man
With the power of nature
Can bring you to the end of your luck
And you should know by my stride
And the look in my eye
That you’re about to be massively
Forced to give up!
Chicken attack!
Chicken attack!
Watch your back
Before it fades to black
They might look harmless
But they’ll kick your
Non-chicken ass
Go chicken go!
Go chicken go!
Now go, now fly!
You own the sky!
Oh…oh…
With the power of nature
you’re never alone
And you can’t let evil run amok
Every beast
Every tree
Follows me to the end
And you’re about to be massively
F**ed!
Chicken attack!
Chicken attack!
Watch your back
Before it fades to black
They might look harmless
But they’ll kick your
Non-chicken ass
Go chicken go!
Go chicken go!
Now go, now fly
You own the sky
You’re young and you’re hungry
Perhaps short on money
I give you this chicken today
Its eggs for your dinner
Its legs for next winter
You won’t have to steal again…
Go chicken go!
Go chicken go!
Now go, now fly
You own the sky
[more yodeling until fade]
