Meanwhile, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo...
Several videos taken in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has recently gained a lot of attention online. The clips showed numerous people scrambling to a mountain.
According to reports, the mountain’s soil is made up of gold and so locals immediately rushed to the area and started digging with their shovels or their bare hands. This happened in a village in the province of South Kivu and the videos were taken in late February.
Understandably, thousands have since flocked to the mountain to get some gold.
In a Twitter post, freelance journalist Ahmad Algohbary shared the video and captioned it this way:
“A video from the Republic of the Congo documents the biggest surprise for some villagers in this country, as an entire mountain filled with gold was discovered! They dig the soil inside the gold deposits and take them to their homes in order to wash the dirt& extract the gold.”
Meanwhile, another video showed people washing the dirt off the ores they obtained from the site.
The news was later picked up by various news sources but before more people could come, government authorities quickly announced a ban on mining in the area – much to the dismay of those who still wanted to do some digging.
