#12. Willard Asylum for the Chronic Insane
Okay, this one is really off the charts considering it’s a mental asylum. It was originally built, though, to be a sanctuary for patients committed for life. But as time passed by, the Willard Asylum became a place for all the chronically insane people. Even those who suffered epilepsy were brought there. Stories about the ghosts of the patients made the asylum popular. Among these ghosts belong to a patient who murdered young girls. He was brought to the asylum in hopes to treat his insanity.
#11. Six Flags Theme Park
The theme park shut down following an extensive damage caused by the 2005’s Hurricane Katrina. Following its closure, the management had to install 24 hour security. Why? Because many still dared to give it a visit, though the park was not in business anymore. More than 2,000 people died from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. And legend has it that the voices echoing in the park are the voices of these victims. Creepy but it reflects a sad story.
#10. Disney’s Discovery Island
Located in Florida, Disney’s Discovery Island was closed in 1999. The closure was due to a report that one of its employees abused vultures and other wild birds. Interestingly, Disney still keeps the island’s lights on at night. Also, a good number of animals still live there. It was originally called Treasure Island. The company, however, wouldn’t disclose the reason why the park was closed. Many suggest that Disney kept tons of endangered animals, something that’s completely illegal. Some of the staff were even believed to mistreat the animals.
#9. Canfranc Rail Station
According to Vibrant Doors, this one here was an international railway station back in the day. The Canfranc Rail Station is located in a village situated in Canfranc, Spain. Built in 1912, it was shut down in 1928. Its cross border line, on the other hand, was closed in 1970. This was after a train derailment took place and ruined the bridge on the French side of the border. The station became a battlefield when the Nazis tried to smuggled gold across the border. Although this wasn’t entirely proven, most enthusiasts believe it actually happened. This resulted to the deaths of hundreds of soldiers who reportedly haunt the abandoned station.
#8. Chateau Miranda
The Chateau Miranda was a castle build sometime in 1907. It was designed to provide residency during summer, though its fame started during World War 2. During that time, the castle became a residing place for the German troops. The war ended and the castle was used as a camp for all sick children, but in 1991, it was abandoned. Interestingly, the place became popular for ghost haunters who believe that the ghosts of the children lurk there. Even aspiring satanists who try to unravel the mystery of the place invaded the abandoned mansion.
#7. Kolmanskop
The town in Namib Desert was originally developed by the German miners in 1900s. During that time, many believed that diamonds can be mined from the sand. But 1950s came, the town disappeared in thin air. Only a fraction of it can be seen, as most of its part was buried into the desert. Kolsmanskop has become a magnet for ghost hunters. They all claim to have experience vast paranormal activities, all of which are deeply connected to the place’s creepy history.

Nara Dreamland is located in Nara, Japan. It was built as a direct opposite of Disneyland in 1961. But when Disneyland came to the country in 1983, the theme park’s success quickly diminished. It closed in 2006. No one can certainly tell if the ghosts in the theme park still continues to haunt. But years after its abandonment, people who tried to sneak their way to the park were welcomed with an eerie atmosphere. At night, they would hear unusual voices echoing from one building to another. It became a place for people who are fond of paranormal activities.

Another ghost town in this list is Craco, which is situated in the southern part of Italy. It was founded during the 8th century, but in 1963 people started to evacuate. It was due to a landslide, a disaster that almost killed most of the townspeople. It was supposed to be renovated, but a flood in 1972 killed the plan. It made sure that Craco could no longer be repopulated. Although many wouldn’t believe, these townspeople are the very ghosts who haunt the tragic place. They’re even believed to scare the living out of those people who tried to visit the place.

Garnet is an abandoned ghost town in Montana, USA. It was a mining town back in 1860s. But as soon as gold ran out, people started to leave. It was in 1900s when it was totally abandoned. Tourists who experienced Garnet claimed that the town has an eerie atmosphere similar to that of Jack Nicholson’s movie called The Shining. They feel like there are eyes watching them from afar. Interestingly, the government of the town opened a job vacancy in which the role is to help manage the ghost town. Now, would you want to go there and work? Absolutely not.
#3. Wonderland Amusement Park
Located 20 miles outside of Beijing, Wonderland Amusement Park was a very popular one during its prime. It was never completed, though. And for some reason, renovation plans didn’t take place. Later on, various crops and farmers took the theme park. A few years then, the park became infamous for vast murders that took place within. But perhaps the most popular one is the involvement of three suspects who murdered a man. They reportedly shot him to death and left his corpse. It may sound vague and whatnot, but this victim’s ghost continues to haunt the park even today.
#2. Michigan Rail Station
The Michigan Rail Staton is today for its wonderful graffiti. In World War 2, the station was heavily used by the American troops as a military station. When the war finally ended, the railway station’s passengers gradually decreased. It’s true that the station may look beautiful inside and out, but its tragic history can’t be denied. There’s a reason why ghosts hunters and cult enthusiasts chose this place for their “unusual” hobbies.
#1. Sarajevo Olympic Luge Track
Located in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the track was built for the Winter Olympics of 1984. Hence the name. When the Siege of Sarajevo took place, Sarajevo Olympic Luge Track was heavily damaged. And since then, it was abandoned. This Olympic track, however, may differ from almost everything in this list. You see, what makes this abandoned location a creepy one is the existence of live land mines. That’s because Sarajevo Olympic Luge Track is a post war city. Along with land mines, various traps were also deployed.
