An eco-friendly leather like no other!
We always love it when brilliant minds put their efforts together to help save the planet. Case in point, two entrepreneurs have come up with a great alternative to leather – one that doesnt involve using animal rawhide and skins.
Desserto founders Adrian Lopez Velarde and Marte Cazarez of Mexico have developed a method of turning cacti into leather. With this, they offer “cruelty free, sustainable alternative, without any toxic chemicals, phthalates and PVC” compared with usual leather.
According to their official website, the two came up with the groundbreaking idea “after working in the furniture automotive and fashion industries” where the realized the gravity of our pollution problems.
Their interest in the subject led them to resigning from their day jobs to think of a solution and to establish their own company.
After two straight years of hard work and research, the two eventually succeeded in creating their unique cactus leather.
In October 2019, they had their first chance of showcasing their one-of-a-kind leather in Milan, Italy – and it has since gained a lot of praise and attention.
Adrian and Marte explain that their product is offered in different colors, thickness, and textures so its perfect for different applications such as” fashion, leather goods, furniture and even automative industries,” the site specified.
