So far, 61 passengers have already tested positive of nCoV.
Passengers of luxury cruise ship Diamond Princess has now been stuck as Japanese health authorities have decided to put them in a 14-day quarantine. This happened after an 80-year-old man from Hong Kong – who has disembarked from the said vessel last month – tested positive of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). The ship is now docked in Yokohama, Japan, trapping more than 3,700 people.
According to reports, 273 people on-board were screened by medical professionals. As of February 7, officials confirmed that a total of 61 has tested positive of the virus, sparking fear among the other guests.
Katsunobu Kato, health minister of Japan, admitted:
“I think the number has increased as a result of people being in a confined space, inside the cruise ship, making repeated contact.”
One Twitter user described:
“I keep hearing painful coughs from a foreigner in a nearby room. I might get infected today or tomorrow.”
The passengers also said that while crew members are still bringing food from room to room, “towels and bed sheets were no longer being changed on a regular basis,” reported the New York Times.
David Abel, a British guest who has been posting Facebook videos about their life on the quarantined ship, lamented:
“We’re no longer on a cruise. Those days are gone.”
