Disabled Woman Publicly Shames Two Male Train Passengers For Taking Her Reserved Seat

I usually have mixed feelings about public shaming but to be honest, there are instances when some people definitely deserve it.

Case in point, common sense just dictates that when we are taking public transportation, we should automatically give up our seat when we see a pregnant woman, a senior citizen, or a disabled individual. It takes nothing more than common sense to figure that out really.

Cat Lee, a 43-year-old disabled woman, wanted to avoid all the hassle so she reserved a seat in advance. When she rode the Virgin Coast Train bound from London’s Kings Cross to Skipton, however, two men were already sitting in her reserved seat. She approached them and told them about it, specifying that she is a disabled person.

According to Cat, the two of them simply ignored her and both refused to give up their seats.

Cat has suffered nerve damage and extreme groin pain because of an operation. She has since been unable to work because of it. For the 3-hour trip, she took her friend to help her out but both of them had to stand for more than an hour before they finally found another seat.

Furious about the bad experience, Cat took it to herself to take photos of the men and then shared it to Facebook where she wrote:

“Meet these gentleman. Travelling from London Kings Cross on the 18:03 to Skipton.

“Charming fellows took reserved seats from Rach & I. As a disabled passenger, I stated why I needed my reserve seat. They didn’t budge. I’m sure their wives and mothers would be proud of them.”

“Meet these gentleman… I’m sure their wives and mothers would be proud of them,” Cat wrote on Facebook.

Kath Sansom, Cat’s friend, added:

“Cat said to them they were in her reserved seats and the men totally ignored her and kept staring at their phones.

“It was a very passive aggressive response; if I don’t look at you and ignore you then you wont dare ask me again. Cat felt unable to challenge them.

“Sadly nowadays nobody really gets involved in other people’s problems and Cat just left it. The aisles were rammed packed so they were unable to push past everybody to try to find a guard. She was in pain and needed her friend there for support.

“Cat feels angry that people think they can do as they please with no consideration for others. The seats are reserved. End of. I just hope it sends a message to others not to do this to people.”

Meanwhile, a Virgin Trains spokesperson shared:

“Should a passenger find their seat unavailable then the Train Guard should be made aware and they would do everything they could to remove anyone or anything currently in the reserved seat.

“However, ultimately they can’t force someone out so they would then, if unsuccessful, find an alternative seat for the passenger either in standard or in first.”
