This guy is taking a unique approach to reducing plastic pollution.
Plastic pollution has become a huge problem across the globe. Fortunately, there are concerned people, organizations, and private sectors helping us deal with it.
As they say, we all need to do our share and that’s exactly what one man is doing right now. After hearing a story about turtles getting tangled in plastic, adventurer Dhruv Boruah decided he’ll help reduce the pollution.
His purpose, of course, is to collect plastic waste on London’s rivers and canals. Now his unique approach to battling pollution has gone viral and has captured the attention of both social media netizens and news sources.
In a CNN feature, Boruah shared:
“It’s a great conversation starter, and then I can tell them about my work, the plastic, and how it all starts here in the canals.”
Boruah started his clean-ups on River Thames about a year ago. He has since launched a campaign he calls The Thames Project hoping to “make everyone aware about the dangers of plastic pollution and inspire them to take action,” the official website reads.
According to CNN, the 35-year-old man used to work as a management consultant, “spending 14 hours a day in front of a screen.”
He later said:
“But then I asked myself, ‘when was the last time I saw a star? Are my eyes made for the stars or for the screen?'”
Boruah pointed out:
“Plastic is now in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. You have to care because it’s about you, your health, and the health of your children. Why are we destroying this planet for them?”
