Marvel Star Elizabeth Olsen Auditioned In Game of Thrones – And It Was “Most Awkward”

We know her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Scarlet Witch, one of the most powerful superheroes in Avengers. What most of us do not know, however, is the fact that she actually auditioned for the role of Daenerys Targaryen in the Game of Thrones – until now.

In a recent interview with Vulture, we learn that, yes, actress Elizabeth Olsen revealed that she once auditioned for the character. And it actually didn’t end well.

Olsen recalled:

“When I first started working, I just auditioned for everything, because I like auditioning. And I auditioned for Khaleesi. I forgot that. It was the most awkward audition I’d ever had.”

According to the actress, she was given the script for the end of the first season – that part where Khaleesi emerged with three dragons. During the audition, she was asked to deliver it in both English and British accent. The show was still in development and so the producers still weren’t sure about what they really wanted at the time.

She continued:

“[From] after she just burned. And she’s making this speech to thousands of people about how she’s their queen. They didn’t know if they wanted a British accent or not. So, you did it in both. It was terrible. Anytime someone says, ‘Bad audition story.’ That’s one I remember.”

Eventually, the showrunners would cut the monologue itself from Game of Thrones and as we all know, Emilia Clarke landed the gig. And the rest, as they say, is history.

That, however, did not stop Olsen from watching the HBO show and becoming a fan.

“I’m just so deep in Game of Thrones that all I can think about is Kit Harington,” Olsen confessed. “I mean, he’s just brainwashed me.”

Alongside actor Paul Bettany, Olsen is set to star in an upcoming Disney+ series featuring their characters Scarlet Witch and Vision. The show will be set in the 1950s, reported Nerdist, so we’re guessing there’s time travel involved – just like in Avengers: Endgame.
