What a clever way to conceal the ring!
Planning a wedding proposal is a tricky task for a man. He has to deal with even the most minute details to make the moment as memorable as ever to his bride-to-be. And, of course, with every proposal comes the uncertainty of her answer – will she say yes or will she bid goodbye to the possibility of wedding bells in the future?
So imagine how Terry, a man from Australia, came up with the wedding proposal for his girlfriend, Anna. Terry’s proposal was not flashy – there was no candlelight dinner, no flash mobs. It was just him, Anna, a camera on a tripod, and a shell-decorated necklace.
According to DailyMail, Terry, being a craftsman, made the shell-designed wooden necklace himself from Tasmanian pine wood. He then gave it to Anna on the day of their first year anniversary.
Terry posted their story and a montage of their lovely and romantic photos on his Youtube channel, where he explained:
‘Since we first met, we had always talked about the many places we would love to travel, and ‘Smoo Cave’ in Scotland had been one on our bucket list.
‘So we traveled to Durness, where the cave is. But before we actually went down to the cave, I asked if I could have the necklace to take some photos of it among the rocks, which gave me a quick chance to break the seal with a knife.
‘We wanted a nice photo so I set up my camera and tripod on a timer, and rushed in.
Terry added:
‘I had always loved the idea of giving someone a gift where they didn’t know its true value.’
Adding to the romantic vibe and giving the necklace a more profound meaning is the fact the cave where Terry chose to propose got its name from the ancient Norse word “hiding place.”
Terry narrated that Anna was both “happy” and “sad” when he cracked the necklace and revealed the ring inside. He remembered her saying:
‘But I could have lost it, you f***ing idiot!’
Anna had been wearing the necklace every day while doing the most mundane stuff like doing house chores, going shopping, and riding planes. Hence, the probability of her losing the necklace, and losing her own engagement ring in the process without her knowing, was actually significant.
Terry admitted to panicking when they went through airport security the first time. He narrated:
‘My biggest moment of panic was when we went through airport security the first time.
‘I hadn’t thought about the fact that she might be asked to put it through the X-Ray, which could have very quickly turned into an airport security proposal!’
He also shared that he felt overwhelmed with the amount of response that the video he uploaded received.
