According to Eugen Merher, Adidas "didn't really react” when he sent them his now-viral commercial.
A German film student has created one of the most touching ads we’ve seen in recent memory. Simply entitled “Break Free,” Eugen Merher’s emotional commercial touches on the topic of aging.
He later looks out on the window, watching a runner and it makes him miss his ‘glory days.’ He later decides to put his old Adidas running shoes on and, after several failed attempts, finally breaks free from the confines of the retirement home.
In an interview with ScaryMommy, the 26-year-old director shared:
“He was really young at heart. He inspired me to have a man that breaks free from inner restrictions, dementia, and from a retirement home — and run one last time.”
Merher later got in touch with Adidas but unfortunately, they weren’t very enthusiastic about his commercial.
Merher told the HuffingtonPost:
“We tried sending it to [Adidas’] communications department but they didn’t really react.”
Well, the company is probably regretting it now that the video has won the hearts of netizens everywhere. It immediately became a viral sensation after being uploaded online! Some viewers even commented that the ad actually made them cry and cheer for the old man.

Merher said:
“Everyone, everywhere, is young at heart. No matter what age, or what you look like, this part of yourself never dies. It can always be activated.”
