What do you think, folks? Is this a 'yay' or a 'nay'?
For many years, Facebook users across the world have been clamoring for a dislike button. Initially, the “Like” button was the only thing available in the popular social media site. That eventually changed when the company finally launched Facebook Reactions in 2016. Reactions, as we all know, is a set of additional emojis that helps users express different emotions such as love, sadness, anger, and others.
Still, none of these buttons are the dislike button so some users still continue to bug Mark Zuckerberg for that.
In a report posted by TechCrunch, the social media giant has admitted that they are currently working on adding reactions to Facebook Messenger.
The new reactions will include 7 new emojis namely heart-eyes, lol, wow, sad, angry, thumbs-up, and, yes, that highly-anticipated thumbs-down.
So does this mean we can finally go on a dislike rampage and attack annoying users who keep on sharing stupid political views or those who post hundreds of selfies per day?
Actually, no.
Again, the thumbs-down emoji is only for Facebook Messenger app and it functions more like a “no” button than “I hate your posts and I hate your guts!” For example, when users are on Messenger and are chatting with several individuals, the thumbs-down emoji can be used to say “no” to a question or to express disagreement to an opinion.
If the testing proves successful, then we can expect that the company will launch the new feature for all users sooner than later.
As a Facebook representative told TechCrunch:
“We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message.”
