‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Emilia Clarke Shares Never-Before-Seen Photos From Aneurysm Scare

The Mother of Dragons is raising awareness about brain injury.

People were recently shocked when Emilia Clarke revealed that she had suffered two brain aneurysms while working on Game of Thrones. Now the real Mother of Dragons has shared never-before-seen images of herself at the hospital after she underwent the surgery that saved her life.

Emilia Clarke had previously opened up about the brain aneurysms she suffered after working on the first season of Game of Thrones. The Solo: A Star Wars Story actress revealed that in 2011, she needed urgent surgery for a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke that could be fatal. Although her op-ed didn’t initially show images from Clarke’s terrifying ordeal, she has now shared pictures from her time at the hospital.

Clarke shared the photos on CBS This Morning and admitted that she went back to work on Game of Thrones just six weeks after surgery. She also confirmed that she suffered the second aneurysm just two years after her first surgery and that a part of her brain died this time.

“So, with the second one, there was a bit of my brain that actually died,” Clarke said. “If a part of your brain doesn’t get blood to it for a minute, it will just no longer work. It’s like you short circuit. So, I had that. And they didn’t know what it was. They literally were looking at the brain and being like, ‘Well, we think it could be her concentration, it could be her peripheral vision [affected].’  I always say it’s my taste in men that’s no longer there! That’s the part of my brain, yeah, my decent taste in men.”

Clarke shared the photos in an effort to raise awareness about brain injuries.

All the difficulties have failed to make Clarke lose hope. Now, as she prepares for the final season of Game of Thrones, she has also started a charity organization that aims to help other brain injury survivors.

“I’ve decided to throw myself into a charity I’ve helped develop in conjunction with partners in the U.K. and the U.S. It is called SameYou, and it aims to provide treatment for people recovering from brain injuries and stroke,” Clarke wrote.

Clarke’s charity organization aims to help other survivors of brain injuries.

Clarke will return as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones Season 8, which premieres on HBO this April 14.
