It was supposed to be a simple party. It went totally wrong!
It’s a classic case of a suppossedly-harmless party gone wrong – and it eventually caused massive damage in Arizona. Upon investigation, it was also discovered that it was all caused by a man who works for the US government.
According to reports, Border Patrol agent Dennis Dickey – who was off-duty at the time of the incident – accidentally started a wildfire during the gender-reveal party for his new baby.
What exactly happened, you ask? How did such a simple party turned into a tragedy? Keep reading as we share the details below.
A VT report effectively summed it up this way. Apparently, upcoming new dad Dickey “made the unconventional decision to detonate a target containing tannerite by shooting at it… in a field of dry grass.”
It was, of course, pretty easy to guess what happened next – and we all couldn’t help but wonder why Dickey didn’t think of the consequences beforehand.
The site further tells us that the US Forest Service releasedf the video which has since gone viral online after making rounds on social media.
Dickey’s target had a “Boy” and “Girl” written on it. After the gunshot, the target exploded and released blue smoke, which signified the new baby was going to be a boy.
The background, however, immediately stole the spotlight after the explosion caused fire in the surroundings. It later spread to the Coronado National Forest and became known as the Sawmill Fire.
The incident “ultimately ended up causing $8,200,000 in damage and took 800 firefighters a week to get under control,” VT wrote. Fortunately, no one was injured and no homes were damaged.
Dickey later pled guilty in court and he was ordered to pay $220,000 in restitution. Well we’re sure this guy definitely learned his lesson and won’t ever pull any stunt like that in the future.
