Attention, beach-loving bibliophiles, we found your dream job!
Who says you can’t enjoy books, get paid, and live in paradise at the same time? The luxury eco-resort Soneva Fushi in the Maldives is currently looking for someone who could sell books to their A-lister and crazy rich guests. Are you ready to be a barefoot bookseller to the rich and famous in this desert paradise?
The job is being offered by Philip Blackwell of Blackwell UK, the British academic book retailer. Blackwell is setting up a bookshop at the luxury resort as part of his Ultimate Library business. The chosen applicant is required to stay on the island for at least three months, hang out with celebrities, and most importantly, love books.
Your life in the resort won’t simply be confined to reading and selling books to the wealthy. Blackwell requires that you maintain “an entertaining and lively blog that captures the exhausting life of a desert island bookseller.” In addition to that, you must also play storyteller to children and entertain guests with amazing tales.
“We want someone on the ground who is creative and inspiring and can maybe get more people to share the pleasure of reading, which is what people enjoy doing on holiday,” Blackwell said.
Blackwell himself thinks highly of the position. He says:
“The role will evolve and it is in part up to you to make the most of this unique opportunity. It’s a dream job for many people. If I was 25 again I would do it.”
You don’t need to worry about spending a fortune looking for accommodations at the resort. That’s already part of the job. Now all you need to do is prove to Blackwell that you’re the one that he’s looking for.
