Vanilla ice cream, strawberry sauce, and chili sauce made from Jolokia peppers. Yep, that's one heck of a mouth-searing flavor, all right.
Ice cream is a quintessential dessert for old and young people alike. There are so many flavors to choose from – from the classic vanilla to the more recent artisanal blueberry cheesecake. Quite recently, there’s been a smattering of experimental and savory flavors popping up in ice cream parlors, but I bet you didn’t think ghost pepper was going to be one of those experimental flavors. Crazy, right? Apparently, the folks at The Ice Cream Store in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware didn’t think so.
The spicy treat’s ingredients include plain vanilla ice cream, strawberry sauce, and yep, hot chili sauce. According to those who have tried it, the savory ice cream had a “deep, rich, creamy vanilla flavor”. But it doesn’t end there. After you get a taste of the creamy goodness of vanilla, the heat of the chili sauce follows. The ice cream is so hot, that you actually have to fill out a waiver to buy it!
The flavor was originally intended to be a publicity stunt only, but interested shoppers wanted to try the hot stuff. And try it they did. According to the ice cream shop’s staff, one brave soul who tried the ice cream actually vomited on the spot while another had a coughing fit.
So if you’re a foodie, just willing to go on a weird food adventure, or just plain looking for pain, you might want to drop by the Ice Cream Store and try the Ghost Pepper Ice Cream for yourself.
