These gorillas certainly know how to pose!
Sometimes the best photos on the internet include animals looking adorable. However, the selfies that are being posted by anti-poaching rangers are also raising awareness about the creatures they protect. Amazingly, the rangers have been sharing amazing pictures showing gorillas posing with them in awesome selfies.
The stunning photos are being shared by The Elite AntiPoaching Units And Combat Trackers Facebook page. The rangers work at the Virunga National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Although most of their images show the rangers working with all types of animals, people are loving the adorable gorilla selfies.
One picture has certainly gone viral because of the awesome poses of the gorillas’ poses. The photo shows two rangers along with Ndakasi and Matabishi, two of Virunga National Park’s gorillas. The apes appear to be waiting for the ranger to take the picture and they certainly know how to smize.
Not surprisingly, the post has since earned over 13,000 likes and people loved the gorilla selfies. “Wow, that is an awesome office you’ve got there. Stay safe and thank you for the amazing work you do,” one comment read.
“What an amazing photo! It’s wonderful to see how comfortable the gorillas are around you. They know that you protect them like you would your own family,” another Facebook user wrote.
The gorillas certainly seem to have accepted the rangers as part of their family. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that the job isn’t without risks.
The Virunga National Park website confirms that there is “a dedicated teams of over 600 rangers.”
“These local men and women go through intensive training, risking their lives on a daily basis to safeguard the park’s exceptional wildlife, including the last of the world’s critically endangered mountain gorillas.”
We’re certainly hoping that the gorillas understand that the rangers are there to keep them safe. In the meantime, we’ll keep waiting for more amazing gorilla selfies.
