17 Gross Kitchen Habits You Might Be Unconsciously Doing
Tidy individuals have shiny, clean kitchens no matter how busy they might be throughout the day. How difficult is it to place the dishes in the dishwasher, right? Aside from the fact that you wouldn’t want a stinky place to live in, you sure as hell don’t want to get sick because you let the potatoes rot in the corner.
If you’re unconsciously doing any of these unhygienic, gross kitchen habits, it’s high time that you stop doing them for your own good:
1. Drinking out of a measuring cup
…Simply because you no longer have clean glasses. This is just insane! It doesn’t take more than 5 minutes to clean a glass for you to use anyway.
2. Turning the cabinet under the sink into your own personal jungle
You may be in a hurry or simply lazy, that’s why your first option to use as a storage solution or trash can is the cabinet under the sink. Start acting like an adult and organize your cabinets before it becomes too much to handle.
3. Using big plastic containers for small amounts of food
When you’re good at organizing, you should know better than to place a small amount of food in large Tupperwares simply because you couldn’t find the right container size. It’s even worse when you use aluminum foil in exchange for a lost lid.
4. Eating ice cream that’s 4 months old in the freezer
Does this even need an explanation? If you know what’s healthy for you, then you would have thrown out the freezer-burned ice cream tub months ago already.
5. A tower of unclean dishes
Okay, so sometimes it’s inevitable to leave unclean dishes on the sink. But if it starts to look like Jenga tower, and glasses are perched precariously on top of each other, it’s high time that you start doing the dishes.
6. Not using a vent fan
This is totally unsafe. Start acting like an adult and stop waving a wet towel in front of the fire alarm just to make it stop.
7. Buying too much produce
They can easily rot and spoil even when kept inside the fridge. It would be best to buy what you only need to consume on a daily basis to keep your food fresh and crisp.
8. Eating cold spaghetti
It’s just wrong.
9. Not owning a fire extinguisher
Again, this is a big no-no. Every kitchen should have one.
10. Defrosting lazily
The right way is always done in the sink. If you’re lazy, you would use the microwave, or even worse, your mouth.
11. Keeping almost empty condiments
Aside from collecting dust, they can also collect bacteria. What is even worse is that when you buy them but don’t even use them at all that they end up as expired bottles of condiments in your fridge or cupboard.
12. Leaving garlic skins anywhere
How hard is it to throw them in the trash can anyway?
13 Slicing food while in the pan
Simply put, it’s risky.
14. Overcrowding the pan
What good are the other pans if you only use just one to cook three meals in it?
15. Letting the potatoes rot
If you know that you won’t be eating that much potatoes in a week, don’t buy a big basket of them from the grocery.
16. Using Parmesan cheese instead of cheddar
There’s a reason you use certain types of cheeses for certain types of food. Unless you really just have a weird palate, Parmesan is never used for a burrito.
17. Using a pot to scramble eggs
A pan is used to scramble eggs. But if you used it yesterday and left it with the unclean dishes in the sink, then your normal substitute would be the pot, right? Wrong.
