What does it really take to become successful and happy at the same time? When you go online and check your social media accounts, you might see countless people posting about their picture-perfect lives. Then you look at yours and realize it’s far from ideal. Naturally, those posts aren’t reflective of real life, but it kind of makes you wonder – what do all successfully happy people do to get to where they are?

#1. Create your personal mission statement.
Ask yourself if what you’re doing is in line with your purpose in life. If it’s not, stop what you’re doing and do something else.
#2. Drink black coffee.
When you get rid of the milk and sugar, you can actually taste the coffee and thus appreciate it more. On the other plus side, you get to cut down on sugar and dairy!
#3. Read to empathize with others.
Reading helps you experience someone else’s life just by going through the pages. It’s impossible to experience some things yourself so the best way to understand the value of experience, even if it’s someone else’s.
#4. Literally get up out of bed the second you hear your alarm.
Hitting “snooze” will only make you not want to wake up even more. So forget “snooze” and just get up and jolt yourself awake. You’ll get more stuff done this way.
#5. Make other people laugh.
Oscar Wilde once said, “If you want to tell people the truth, make ’em laugh, otherwise, they’ll kill you.”
#6. Invest in quality shoes.
The shoes you wear have a huge impact on your comfort, your posture, and even your overall health. Investing in quality shoes may be expensive but shoes that fit you perfectly and are comfortable simply pay for themselves.
#7. Prepare for tomorrow tonight.
Pick out your clothes, organize all your things, and make sure you have a clear plan for what you’re doing tomorrow. You’ll save a lot of time in the morning and so this means you can compose yourself before your day officially starts.
#8. Don’t be afraid to erase.
There’s so much clutter in our lives that you just need to find the courage to erase unnecessary things- whether they be photos, phone numbers, old junk, or even toxic people.
#9. Drink plenty of water.
No, the water in your coffee or soda doesn’t count! If you’re having trouble with this, keep a 2L water bottle by your workstation at all times and make sure you finish it by the end of the day.
#10. Smile.
It spreads the good vibes when you smile at people. And on top of that, it’s a simple way to pick up your own mood.
#11. Brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand.
It takes some effort, but it trains your mind for something new. Who knows, you might be unlocking your untapped ambidexterity?
Habits are hard to break and if they’re habits that contribute to your happiness and success, then you better do your best to master them.
