Be cautious, everyone. Users are saying the hoax email looks "dead legit."
Usually, hoax emails are easy to spot. But scammers these days have gotten really clever in their dirty deeds and have come up with something a little more convincing than their previous tricks.
Case in point, there’s a new scam email circulating out there on the web and it claims to be from Apple – and experts are strongly encouraging users to never open the message.
The email may particularly deceive iTunes subscribers since the email looks extremely similar to a legit Apple invoice. It says you have purchased a song from the iTunes store but the real motive here is to steal your personal details.
Twitter user FloLamps shared a screenshot of the said email and added:
“Just to let everyone know theres a scam going around… They tried it because my apple ID isnt with this email #scam”
So basically, the hoax email tricks you into believing you have purchased a Lil Kesh song entitled ‘For You’ for the pricey amount of £23.34 (that’s about $31). If you know you haven’t bought any music, the natural tendency, of course would be to click the ‘Cancel and Manage Subscription’ link located at the last part of the email.
That’s absolutely something you wouldn’t want to do as the link takes you to a fraudulent page.
Another Twitter user shared this experience this way:
If you receive one of these messages, never click the link and just delete it right away. Keep in mind that Apple will never ask for your personal details.
As their website warns us:
“The iTunes Store will never ask you to provide personal information or sensitive account information (such as passwords or credit card numbers) via email.
Email messages that contain attachments or links to non-Apple websites are from sources other than Apple, although they may appear to be from the iTunes Store.
Most often, these attachments are malicious and should not be opened.
You should never enter your Apple account information on any non-Apple website.”
Go warn your friends and loved ones!
