A recipe for cockroach bait composed of natural and safe ingredients could help homeowners drive out nasty cockroaches forever.
Cockroaches are probably the most hated creatures on earth. Everyone — from apartment dwellers to those holding court in mansions — hates them.
However, cockroaches can be sneaky. They can be hard to find or pin down, as they can fly. What makes matters worse is that they also don’t die easily. Don’t you just hate it when you hit a cockroach with a rolled-up newspaper or shoe and then you see it still moving? As such, there are all sorts of insecticides and devices available to get rid of them.
Then again, many people think that the use of insecticide may do more harm than good. While these chemical substances ki ll cockroaches, they may also have an adverse effect on people and pets. As Chanie Kirschner pointed out in a Mother Nature Network article: “With powerful insecticides, you’ll see results right away, but you’ll be exposing your family to toxic chemicals in the process.”
Kirschner goes on to explain that prevention is always the best move when it comes to getting rid of cockroaches. You can easily do that by keeping your home clean. You can also seal up any cracks or openings where cockroaches may crawl in.
However, there are instances when cockroaches manage to find their way inside your home. This is when you can make your own cockroach bait.
You will need the following to make the cockroach bait:
a bowl a fork 100 percent boric acid sugar egg yolk
Here are the steps you must follow:
1. Boil some eggs until the yolks are hardened, then let them cool.
2. Peel the eggs and take out the egg yolks only.
3. Put the egg yolks in the bowl and add 2.5 ounces boric acid slowly by gradually mashing it together with the egg yolks.
4. Once the yolks are mixed with the boric acid, add about 1/2 cup of sugar and continue mixing.
5. Keep mixing until the texture is like play dough. If the texture is still crumbly, you have to add more sugar.
6. Once you get the right texture, create tiny balls of the mix and place them in strategic areas.
The San Francisco Globe‘s Angela Brown, who believes in this homemade cockroach bait, stated, “Don’t be alarmed if you see a parade of cockroaches the first day or two. Within a week your nasty friends should be gone. This treatment is effective for several months.”
Kirschner adds, “Although the boric acid isn’t toxic to people or pets, it can be irritating so keep it away from counters and places where little fingers and noses can reach.”
