It's a whole new world out there - and it still isn't safe to reopen.
Last June 18, Hong Kong Disneyland reopened its doors after five months of closure due to the coronavirus lockdown. Now after just a month, the theme park located in Penny’s Bay, Lantau Island is once again announcing its closure after cases of Covid-19 have reportedly seen a significant increase in the city.
In its official website, Disneyland posted that the park will “temporarily close from July 15, 2020” to comply with the requirements of government and health officials in preventing the spread of the virus.
According to reports, there have been 52 new cases of coronavirus in Hong Kong.
A statement from the park further tells us the resort hotels will remain in operation “with adjusted level of services.”
“Enhanced health and safety measures that reflect the guidance of health and government authorities have been put in place, such as social distancing measures and increased cleaning and sanitization,” they assured.
Meanwhile, Walt Disney World has recently reopened in Orlando, Florida despite the spike of confirmed coronavirus cases. Last July 12, Sunday, 15,299 new cases have been reported in the state.
In an interview with CNN, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products chairman Josh D’Amaro said:
“We are in a new normal. The world is a different place, but we feel really prepared to operate in this new environment.”
However, numerous netizens have since expressed disbelief over the fact that the Florida park remains open with those many cases. Some are even claiming that closure will be inevitable a few weeks from now once any park workers or guests contract the disease.
