You can deny all you want, but according to Sheril Kirshenbaum, author of the book The Science of Kissing, there is a logical explanation as to why we kiss and how it can reveal a lot about our personalities and relationships with other people.

The book lays down the most common kissing styles with Kirshenbaum presenting an insight of how your relationship might be like at the moment as well as a telling look into your personality. Lifestyle website Little Things came up with the illustrations for the different types of lip-locks.

The Peck

Considered as the most common form of kissing when in a new relationship, The Peck is more about testing the waters with your partner. If sparks fly, then we all know where that leads to…more kissing, of course!
For couples who have been together longer, the peck is a way of checking in with the other to sort of say “hey, I love you!”

Kiss on the Cheek

There’s a sign of fondness or a show of politeness when you kiss your partner on the cheek. Basically, it says “I like you” to the person on the receiving end of the kiss. Romantic feelings may still be present, but one can tell that true friendship is present between the two of you.

Sloppy Kiss

Ah, the kiss that’s charged with passion and intimacy. That pretty much sums up the kind of relationship you have with your partner as well. Not without much surprise, men love this type of kiss the most according to Kirshenbaum.

French Kiss

Considered as the heavily passionate kiss among the rest, when partners engage in this lip-lock, there is a deeper want to know the other person more.

The Nibble Kiss

Playful bites and tugs reveal a healthy and fun sex life between you and your partner.

Closed Mouth Kiss

For couples who just recently got together, this could be taken as a sign that you are not yet comfortable with each other. Long time couples however who engage in the Closed Mouth Kiss can indicate signs of “emotional walls” between the two of you.

While a kiss is not the sole indicator of the state of your relationship is at the moment, it can be one of the main reasons why you’re happy or unhappy with your partner.
