Husband’s Response To Wife’s Postpartum Body Is What Love Is About

If this isn't unconditional love, then we don't know what is.

If you’ve given birth, you know how tough it can be to feel totally confident in your postpartum body. No matter how many times you tell yourself that your body has done the most amazing thing in the world, it’s hard to ignore those physical changes that are a little less amazing.

Blogger Laura Mazza felt a lot of overwhelming emotions about her body after giving birth. Since she didn’t like the way her body looked like, she assumed that her husband felt the same way – she was wrong.

Laura shared her story in a lengthy Facebook post.

She wrote:

“The body he fell in love with was toned, it had muscles, there were no stretch marks on my belly, none on my boobs, no gut from muscle separation.

The body he fell in love with fit into tight jeans, could walk into a shop and grab any size and walk out, knowing it fit.”

She then compared her previous body to her current one, saying that her body now couldn’t shop at stores and would prefer to wear a pair of leggings. Laura also noted that her husband’s body remained the same, while hers changed into something that she can’t recognize anymore.

She continued:

“I stood in front of him, exhausted and broken, the tears welled in my eyes, ‘this isn’t the body you fell in love with.’ Then he said, ‘you’re right. It isn’t the body I fell in love with.

Instead, it’s a body that grew our children; it fed our children, it comforted our children, it made life. Your body is the one I fall in love with every day. I didn’t know what love was until I saw this body and found out all it could do, so thank you.'”

Laura’s husband went on to say that she shouldn’t be ashamed of what her body looks like because she can easily go back into shape if she wanted to. But for now, she shouldn’t think too much about her appearance and just enjoy the fact that the body that she dislikes so much allowed her to bear a child.

Laura’s husband helped her with her postpartum depression. This is a sweet reminder that there are still men out there who see past your “flaws.” They love you just the way you are — stretch marks and all.
