Jealous Husband Refused to Speak with His Wife for 20 Years

We have heard of couples with marital problems not talking for a day or even weeks over trivial things, but this Japanese couple took it to a whole new level when the husband refused to speak to his wife for more than 20 years!

Bickering in marriage is unavoidable, sure, but would you rather live with a person who argues with you or someone who would give you a cold shoulder the entire time? This Japanese husband’s stubbornness and his wife’s extreme patience got the world buzzing.

Otou Yumi and his wife Katayama have been married for more than twenty five years and were blessed with three children. On the outside, they seemed like a normal family but their kids knew better. Their youngest child Yoshiki, aged 18 years old, wrote to a local TV show asking for help to mend things between his parents.

According to Yoshiki, his mother normally talks with his father, but his father would only answer with grunts and nods. Even their older children, aged 21 and 25 years old, have no memory of their parents talking with each other although their father had regular conversations with them.

The producers of the TV show arranged to reunite the couple by arranging a ‘date’ at the very park where they first met. It was a breathtaking feat for their children who were watching secretly from the background. However, they were shocked and overjoyed to see their father finally opening up after visibly struggling for some time.

Otou Yumi hasn’t spoken to his wife for more than 20 years.

Their children were secretly observing from a distance.

Otou said:

“Somehow…it’s been quite a while since the two of us have talked. You were so concerned about the kids. Up until now, you have endured a lot of hardship. I want you to know I’m grateful for everything.”

Apparently, Otou had been jealous for some of his wife’s attention who became busy and focused on taking care of their kids. His wife Katayama expressed her willingness to work things out with him. Now, the couple promised to communicate more from then on.
