Lammily does not have a flat stomach. She also has huge hips, buttocks, and thighs, but the children loved her just the same.
Are you tired of buying disproportionate and unrealistic dolls for your children that somehow affect their perception of beauty? I’m not saying those dolls are not good for them since I too grew up having such dolls, and (I think?) I ended up just fine.
Sadly, there are grown women out there who are trying so hard to be like those dolls, up to a point that they opt to go under the knife or develop eating disorders just to look like one. Studies show that thin dolls and action figures can have a psychological impact on children, which can influence their concept of body image and career choices later in life.
A researcher and full-time artist named Nickolay Lamm decided to do something about it. He started a crowdfunding campaign last March so he can create a doll that will defy the society’s limited standards of beauty. And due to the success of the campaign, the first batch of these dolls will be out in the market soon.
Meet the Lammily doll— the first fashion doll ever to have typical body proportions.
To see how children would receive Lammily, Nickolay gave the doll to second graders at St. Edmund’s Academy, an independent Pre-K – 8-grade day school in Pittsburgh, PA and asked them to compare it with Barbie.
You’ll be amazed by what these children thought about the dolls!
