The warning comes following Pres. Trump's idea of using disinfectants as injection against COVID-19.
The makers of Lysol and Dettol has warned the public not to ingest their product, following President Donald Trump’s controversial remarks at a recent press briefing where he suggested the possibility of studying and using disinfectant products as injection against the coronavirus.
In an official statement, Ricket Benckiser Plc specified that their disinfectants should only be used under approved usage guidelines.
The company said:
“As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route).”
They also added that it is their duty to provide their buyers with “accurate, up-to-date information as advised by leading public health experts.”
Naturally, it didn’t take long for researchers and doctors to share their opinions about the eyebrow-raising issue.
As Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital pulmonologist John Balmes called Trump’s idea a “ridiculous concept” and clarified:
“Inhaling chlorine bleach would be absolutely the worst thing for the lungs. The airway and lungs are not made to be exposed to even an aerosol of disinfectant.”
In addition to disinfectants, Pres. Trump also suggested the idea of using UV rays “inside the body” to battle COVID-19.
Numerous netizens also commented about Trump’s remarks.
One user sarcastically wrote:
“He’s right though. If you inject yourself with disinfectant, I guarantee you will not die from Covid-19.”
Another said:
“Maybe we should let people who are dumb enough to believe this do this at home.”
