“The noise from cars and motorcycles disrupts my sleep. I'm so stressed out."
Noise is one of the problems you have to deal with when you live next to a road where vehicles can pass freely. Usually, there’s nothing you can do but get used to the rumble and roar of vehicles even while you sleep.
But Nor Muhamad Roslam Harun refuses to put up with the noise and proceeds to do something about it – he installed speed bumps along the road beside his home in Kampung Padang Luas, Jertih. Not a big deal, you say, but Nor Muhammad put not just one or two, but 11 speed bumps.
So you can only imagine the ordeal experienced by the vehicles who passed by the road beside Nur Muhammad’s house after the bumps have been installed. There was already two on the road before Nur Muhammad added the additional bumps. The bumps were less than 40 meters apart, making the road inaccessible except for four-wheel drive vehicles.
Asked why he did it, the 40-year-old Nur Muhammad said: “The noise from cars and motorcycles disrupts my sleep. I’m so stressed out and I also have other health issues.”
“Actually, I wanted to make speed ‘humps’, but the asphalt hardened so quickly before they could be flattened, causing them to become bumps.”
He also paid for the installation, spending RM 1080 from his Employees Provident Fund i-Sinar money.
The story became viral when a man posted a picture of the bumps and said his neighbor had them installed.
Eventually, Nur Muhammad had to remove the bumps.
“Police officers came to see me on Wednesday morning and asked me to remove all the speed bumps that I had installed,” he said.
“So I hired a bulldozer operator to remove all the speed bumps on the street, including the two original ones.”
He apologized for the inconvenience he caused to the other residents.
