"Uncle Filip can shred for all eternity."
When a loved one dies, those who want to keep a part of the remains will usually have the body cremated and collect the ashes. But this man had a better idea in honoring his late uncle’s remains – turning his skeleton into a guitar.
A man who goes by the moniker Prince Midnight received his late uncle Filip’s skeletal remains after it was used for educational purposes for two decades at a local college in Greece. His uncle died “way too young,” Prince Midnight said, more than 20 years ago in a car accident.
The school decided that it no longer needs the skeleton and decided to return it to the family. Prince Midnight and the rest of the family were unsure what to do with the remains – according to him, the Orthodox Greeks are not into cremation, and having it buried will be too expensive.
Prince Midnight had to go through lots of red tape to get the skeleton. He lives in Florida and he had to process tons of paperwork to get it going.
When he finally came into possession of the skeleton, he made a morbid yet interesting decision.
“So, I got the box of bones from Greece and didn’t know what to do at first. Bury them? Cremate them? Put them in the attic? All seemed like poor ways to memorialize someone who got me into heavy metal.”
“So, I decided to turn Uncle Filip into a guitar, which proved to be challenging. I did a lot of research and no one has ever made a guitar out of a skeleton. So, I did it. I started out consulting with two guys in Dean Guitars’ wood shop in Tampa but they got cold feet.”
“Anyways, now Uncle Filip can shred for all eternity. That’s how he would want it. I’m super proud of the project and how it serves to honor him, his life and his influence on me.”
The skeleton’s torso became the “body” of the guitar. He added the neck, volume knob, pickups, and other parts. Prince Midnight also provided photos showing how he did it, plus a video of him playing the macabre guitar.
And totally fitting was the name Prince Midnight gave the guitar: Filip Skelecaster.
