‘Manly’ App Allows Men To Add ‘Instant Abs and Muscles’ For Their Selfies

Yes, we all know that having a good-looking six-pack requires a lot of hard work and discipline. But would you jump on the chance to have it in a much easier way?

Apparently, there is one smartphone app out there that allows you to have those sweet, sweet ‘abs’ in no time. However, people are divided about their opinions on it.

The ‘Manly’ app lets men ‘photoshop’ muscles – even tattoos and facial hair – on their selfies so they can look, well, manlier.

Manly app is available for both Android and iOS users.

The app description tells us:

“Manly is a powerful photo editor with a complete pack of muscles, tattoos, hair styles, beard & mustache, skin tone, and accessories! It’s a photo filter or picture editing app with every function you need while much easier to use.”

Meanwhile, a Metro article further specifies that Manly allows users to “choose from a range of body types to elevate their physique – constructing ‘perfect’ abs, pecs and biceps. You can even add beards and try out different hairdos.”

Although many users downloaded the app, some have likewise criticized it for ‘perpetuating unrealistic body ideals.’

Denise Hatton, co-founder of the Be Real Campaign, pointed out:

“A lot of people think body image struggles only affect women, but we’ve seen an increasing number of men desperately trying to live up to the male beauty ideal that we constantly see across the media and advertising- a ‘fit, ribbed and bulky’ body,’

“Apps like Manly play into the damaging narrative that to be considered an attractive man, you need to look a certain way, making it extremely toxic for impressionable young men.”
